Compass Insurance: Our Story, Told 50 Years On
Compass didn’t begin as a big company; it began as a simple idea back in 1976: give holiday park owners insurance that truly understands their world.
At the time, park operators didn’t have many options. So the industry’s trade association the National Federation of Site Operators (NFSO, now known as HARPA) teamed up with an insurance broker to create a scheme designed exclusively for parks; covering caravans, chalets and all the things that made park life unique.
It was officially introduced at the NFSO conference April 22nd 1976, and it quickly gained momentum.
Growing With the Industry
As years passed, parks grew, changed and modernised, and the scheme grew with them. New covers were added, policies were simplified and refinements were made to help parks protect everything from buildings and equipment to rental income. By 1984, the scheme had grown so much it needed a proper name.
“COMPASS” was born, Derived from the words; Complete Park And Site Security, a name that has stayed with us ever since.

Evolving Trough the Years
Through the years, the management of the Compass Scheme evolved through different insurers. What began with Glanville Enthoven developed and transitioned over time, eventually leading to the insurer that manages the scheme today: Bspoke Lifestyle Limited.
50 Years Later
Today, our alliance with the industry’s national association, HARPA (Holiday and Residential Parks Association) continues stronger than ever.
From a small member scheme to a nationally recognised specialist brand, Compass has spent five decades supporting holiday and residential parks, and all the people who enjoy them. And that’s a story we’re incredibly proud of.
