This timeline highlights the key milestones that have shaped Compass from its beginnings in 1976 to its 50th‑anniversary year in 2026.
To tell this story, we traced Compass’s journey through a variety of HARPA (formally known as BH&HPA) journals and online sources, stitching together the moments that shaped its identity and legacy.
The Insurance for Site Operators scheme was introduced at the National Federation for Site Operator (NFSO) conference in April 1976, and Glanvill Enthoven Limited was appointed to oversee its management.

The Compass name is introduced, Compass stands for Complete Park and Site Security and reflects the scheme’s promise of all‑round protection. Reinforcing how the insurance supports site operators by helping them navigate risks with confidence and peace of mind.
The Compass brand officially launched in the January/February NFSO Journal with the unveiling of its distinctive hand logo, symbolising guidance and protection. The launch was marked by a specially comissioned Minton hand.

The NFSO rebrands to the British Holiday & Home Parks Association (BH&HPA), Compass updates part of their logo to match.

In 1990, Cyclone Daria struck the UK with windgusts reaching up to 104 mph. The storm caused an estimated £3.37 billion in economic damage.*
